Musician

Born in 1974, Anders Ådin has worked as a freelance folk musician, composer and organiser since 1989. Starting out as a teenager playing Celtic folk music, his interests moved to the Nordic tradition, especially the music of Western Sweden and his native Bohuslän. In addition to the folk scene Anders’s musical curiosity has led him into many different contexts. He is one of Scandinavia’s few professional hurdy-gurdy players and has, with his characteristic style of playing, has helped extend the boundaries of the instrument. On guitar he alternates between a Nordic finger-picking style and rhythmic plectrum accompaniment. As a singer the onus is on personal expression. In addition to his involvement in a number of groups, past and present, such as Hemållt, Doggerland, Stimenn and Faust, Anders has contributed as a studio musician and a producer on a number of CD productions and as a freelance musician on a number of live productions around the world. A highlight was his performance as hurdy- gurdy soloist in the production of Murray Shafer’s The Children’s Crusade in Toronto 2009. As a composer Anders’s work extends from small subtle melodies to swinging folk tunes in the Nordic tradition.
